Conversation With The Moon by ~Iratus:iconIratus:

The moon spoke to me tonight,
Its face shining down upon mine.
It asked me what my life was like,
Down upon this earth.

I told it that I was happy,
And that I was amongst my friends.
It just smiled at me, a sad smile,
And looked at the stars.

I asked it why it wanted to know,
And it told me the following:
'My life is spent above that earth,
And in this cold of space, I get lonely.'

To which I replied, 'Why would you be lonely?
You are amongst friends, as well!'
The moon just laughed at me,
And said, 'What do you mean?'

My smile faded,
'Why, the stars of course.'
The moon seemed to ponder this,
And then gave me its reply.

'Friends can be limitless,
And they can be close,
But no amount of friends will ever give you,
What you desire the most.'

'And what is it you desire?' I asked the moon.
'I want to see the blue sea,
That shines down below,
And I want to see the wind that blows.'

'I want to see the green grass,
And the shape of the trees,
I want to see the raging rivers,
And every flowing stream.'

I thought on this for a while,
But could think of nothing to say,
And before I knew it,
A cloud swept the moon away.

Author's Comments

The day after I wrote this poem I looked up at the moon while standing on the sidewalk.
The feeling I got from it was overwhelming. I hope you enjoy, and if you can think of a more fitting category for this poem than "General Poetry," please tell me.
