A golden gate stands before me,
And above me the night sky,
Below me the endless abyss,
And surrounding me is empty space.
Vast galaxies find their home in my eyes,
And stardust finds its way into my lungs,
The cold of space invades my bones,
And makes its home within me.
I feel the presence of the spirits,
Their voices whirling together,
Into the swirling gates before me,
And I look to them, upon their beautiful shine.
I feel the power that comes from them,
And the wisdom beyond,
I feel that my mind is prepared,
Thought for what I do not know.
As my fingers touch the sparkling bars,
My arm falls numb,
The energy of the unknown permeating my being,
And the silence has now become deafening.
The voices become louder, urging me on,
Though I cannot move,
I look to the sky above, at the twinkling lights,
How can something so small be so beautiful?
The gates give way to my touch,
And my arm falls to my side as they open,
Their eternal hinges never squealing,
Though it looks as though they are ancient.
My feet cross the threshold,
Across the abyss below me,
And I feel the voices call my name,
Colors swirling around and through me.
Beyond these gates of obscurity,
I see a trail of silver,
Sparkling like the stars above,
And forever endless.
Like the space that surrounds it,
This land is strange and new,
And also somewhat distant,
As though it is waiting.
But for what, I do not know,
This is my home now,
I feel it claim me,
Taking me as its own.
I travel this endless abyss of stars,
Still new to the feelings it evokes,
And feel the sheer size overwhelm me,
Though it still watches..ever waiting.
Ever watching,
Watching for my understanding,
For my acceptance of this world unknown,
But for now..it waits.
But for what, I do not know.
